Nonviolent Peaceforce E-News

May 2006

Ela Gandhi, Granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, joined Nonviolent Peaceforce in Washington D.C. on May 2 to appeal for nonviolent responses to conflict and unveil the Series A 2006 Peace Bonds which allow citizens around the world to directly support unarmed peacekeepers in the field.

Ela reflected on her Grandfather's life work and recognized the 100 th anniversary of the birth of his Nonviolent Movement—Satyagraha—one of the most successful in human history.

“Today, we stand at a crossroad. We face, all of us, by our silence to promote the violence, or by our active participation to promote the proliferation of peace.”

Nonviolent Peaceforce first began issuing Peace Bonds in 2003. This year, we decided the bonds were ready for a new look. Over 300 people from more than ten countries entered our first International Peace Bond Design Competition. An international panel of judges selected six to represent the Series A 2006 Peace Bonds that range from $10 to $500.

Grand prize-winners Delores Hartman of Altoona , Pennsylvania (adult division) and 13 year old Jocelyn Torres of Brownsville , Texas (youth division) attended the ceremony. View photos from the event.

When you make a donation to Nonviolent Peaceforce in the form of Peace Bonds, the return on your ‘investment' is priceless…you will be directly supporting unarmed peacekeepers working to reduce violence around the world.

Give Peace Bonds as gifts this Mother's Day and Graduation season and invest in our vision of a more peaceful, secure future for all.
