Development Associate, Major Gifts Department – USA

Hours: 20 hours/week
Compensation: $20,000/year, plus benefits
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

OBJECTIVE To support department activities which raise $1-2million/year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Documents solicitation activities of staff, National Fund Raising Board and volunteers.
  2. Analyzes, recommends and helps plan donor solicitation cycles, including national tours.
  3. Provides support to the Major Gifts Officer.
  4. Recruits, trains, supervises and nourishes department volunteers.
  5. Coordinates prospect research conducted by volunteers and interns.
  6. Maintains donor and prospect files (database and print).
  7. Coordinates mailings and materials produced by the department.
  8. Manages non-monthly gift pledges, i.e. quarterly, annual, and challenge/matching gifts.
  9. On a limited basis, assists in scheduling special events, tours and major donor visits.
  10. Participates in annual and periodic department planning and budget development.
  11. Helps create and evaluate annual performance objectives for this position.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Excellent organizational skills. Able to prioritize projects and tasks and to meet deadlines. Detail oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Database management skills. Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports. Able to learn and implement software programs and other department resources.
  • Experience contributing to database design and programming a plus.
  • Ability to make evaluative judgments, maintain confidentiality and apply discretion under diverse circumstances.
  • Strong computer and research skills.
  • Ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
  • Flexible and cooperative team player.
  • Inspires trust and confidence in others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Minimum one year fundraising experience. At least one year major gifts fundraising experience preferred.
