Job Summary: Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a nonprofit organization looking for a business student (MBA) to help develop a plan for a small business that would bring a stream of income to Nonviolent Peaceforce. NP is exploring the feasibility of starting a small business that would bring a steady stream of income to NP heretofore referred to as “regenerative businesses.” We are looking for an intern to research and develop a business plan. The intern will present her or his findings to Nonviolent Peaceforce by year end 2008 or earlier.
Responsibilities:
• Research and analyze successful regenerative businesses that support nonprofit organizations.
• Develop a business plan for a regenerative business to serve NP. Such plan would include:
o Work with NP. staff to define the business details, requirements and goals.
o Import regulations for organic agricultural products.
o Cost of importing the product as well as sales costs.
o Probable sale price for the product.
o Options for product distribution (e.g. in-house, or online via our own website and/or sales sites such as Amazon.com) -Recommend a plan for product distribution.
o Budget, with projected environmental, social and financial results.
Required Qualifications:
• Effective communication and organizational skills
• Coursework in business at the graduate level
• Interest in sustainable business
• Strong research, analytical, and writing skills
• Ability to work independently with some degree of flexibility
• Ability to focus while in close proximity to others
• Commitment to the mission of Nonviolent Peaceforce
• A sense of personal responsibility
